IOSAT Be Prepared
We get a lot of questions like this:
Does anyone know a place in Oklahoma to purchase IOSAT or potassium-iodide? Don't
really want to buy online.
Solution:
Go to your local camping store and buy iodine water purification tablets. Take a 16 oz glass of water and put one tablet in. Mix until the water cannot take anymore iodine.
Add a 2nd tablet if needed. You will know if the water has absorbed the all the iodine if after mixing you start to get sediment at the bottom.
Then take and fill an eye dropper with the solution. Put 4 drops into the center of a piece of bread and roll it into a ball and swallow. You roll it in the bread, because the iodine tastes bad.
You do this for at least 2 weeks if radiation is present. If this is for a young teenager cut dosage in half. A small child only 1 drop is needed. So, stock up on your iodine water purification tablets.
Hope it never comes down to it but preppers need to be prepared!

Are America’s freedom fighters turning over in their graves?
Have American Presidents surrendered American financial institutions over to the European Union?

Let it be known forevermore that April 3, 2009 will live in infamy as the day that an American President officially surrendered the financial institutions of our beloved nation over to the European Union. In his speech in Srasbourg, France he urged “a shift in attitudes”. In America, he said, there had been “a failure to appreciate Europe’s “leading role in the world,” and there had been “times when America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”
I am 76 years old and this is the first time in my lifetime that I have ever heard an American President or leader at any level acknowledge that Europe has led America in anything for two centuries except in decadence and tyranny. If this is true, when did Europe take over from America our role as the leader of the free world, as we have always heard other Presidents declare our position to be?
If it had not been for American blood rescuing them from the Kaiser in World War I, and then again from Mussolini and Hitler in World War II, there would be no Europe to lead anything today. If it hadn’t been for America the Brits would be speaking German, and after that war was won the Germans would have been speaking Russian. And if it hadn’t been for the American dollar and massive aid after both wars were over, multitudes would have starved or died from some dread disease.
If you are listening carefully, some are telling about this financial surrender on a daily basis like, Beck, bortz, Hannnity, Levine, Limbaugh, Morris, O’reilly, and a few others. They are screaming their heads off but few seem to be listening, especially Beck.
Let us return to the announcement in the press this past November when President Bush was going to meet with the leaders of the Western world to see if they could solve the International monetary crisis? Even before the meeting began, Reuters News Service on Nov. 9 said that Britain’s Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, had announced that “the international financial crisis has given world leaders a unique opportunity to create, “a truly global society.”
In a nutshell let’s see what our President gave away without a vote of the people or Congress as a result of his meeting at the G-20 economic summit. The following is an analysis by Dick Morris and Elaine McGann that appeared in Newsmax November 19, 2008.
“Without a vote we are now a member of the European Union. Bush agreed to subject the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and our other regulatory agencies to the supervision of a global entity that would critique its regulatory standards and demand changes if it felt they were necessary and agreed to create a College of Supervisors. According to The Washington Post, it would “examine the books” of major financial institutions. The International Monetary Fund (IMF)… would conduct “regular vigorous reviews” of American financial institutions and practices. The European-dominated College of Supervisors would also weigh in on issues like executive compensation and investment practices.”
And the Morris and McGann asked, “Why have 80 percent of the jobs that have been created since 1980 in the industrialized world been created in the United States? How has America managed to retain is leading 24 percent share of global manufacturing even in the face of the Chinese surge?
How has the U.S. GDP risen so high that it essentially equals that of the European Union, whose population is 50 percent greater?
It has done so by an absence of stifling regulation, a liberation of capital to flow to innovate businesses, low taxes, and by a low level of unionization that has given business the flexibility to grow and prosper.
Europe, stagnated by taxation and regulation, has grown by a pittance while we have roared ahead. But now Bush -- not Obama -- Bush has given that all up and caved in to European socialists.”
The Bible says, “the borrower is servant to the lender. When America borrows billions, the international banksters are going to demand the right to run America’s financial ship.
Now that Obama is President doesn’t mean that anything has changed. If McCain had been elected the surrender would still have be forthcoming. Remember he was also for the bailout before the election.
Garrett Lear, The Patriot Preacher from N.H. says, “someone has stolen my country and I want it back.” I agree with him. I would also say that if Obama loves Europe so much let him move there and stay. It’s time for a new generation to read, understand, and revere Henry Vandyke’s ageless poem, America for Me, written by the Presbyterian preacher in 1909.

The Importance of Physical Fitness
This topic has been talked about in depth for about as long as there has been a survivalist community. It will be impossible to survive whatever comes our way without physical fitness. In fact, it is impossible to survive at all on a long enough time line. We will all die - it is just a question of when. We all prep and attempt to get others to do so, in an effort to prolong our lives and those of our loved ones. Physical fitness plays into this idea - possibly even more so than the beans and bullets.
In a world without cars the most likely method of traveling across land will be by foot (or animal, but this still requires some physical acumen).
The fabled "bug out" in a SHTF scenario will likely include some cross country travel on foot after your gasoline storage runs out.
The revered "bug in" in a SHTF scenario will still require you to cultivate the land, bend your back and work animals. All of which require you to be in shape.
Fighting for your life against any aggressor is not like hollywood makes it seem - it is not all marksmanship and sneaking up on people. You need to be stronger than the person who desires to do you and your family harm. You need to be faster than that person. You need to have more stamina to outlast an adversary either on the run or in a CQB situation.
Don't wait - this is not something that you can just start doing once something goes down. It is like taking vitamin C - it does you far less good to start taking it once you are sick, you need to be using it before hand. We all need to be exercsing now. If not for a SHTF scenario, so we can live better, happier more productive lives. All medical personnel agree that exercise, whether aerobic (cardio) or anerobic (weights) benefits our body and keeps diseases at bay. I don't believe in anti-depressants (for myself) -what I do believe in are 4 mile runs (5 if am feeling extra shitty). 45 minutes later I am right as rain - no medication needed. Endorphins are released when you exercise and are truly a force to be recond with.
Lifting weights is nice, but not always possible - do tasks and projects around the house at a level that will challenge you and eventually increase what you think you can do.
I recognize that folks have orthopedic problems (I am one of them) but we just have work around them and find activities/ exercise that we can engage in. This part of preparation is NON NEGOTIABLE.
The best thing about this particlar prep is that is costs you nothing to get outside and run or walk. No memberships needed.

Creating a Garden Plot
I have a large raised bed and several containers that I try to do my urban gardening in (try b/c I haven't been very successful thus far); on top of that I have about a 1/2 acre of stupid rye grass or something not very pretty or productive. I decided I wanted to till a portion of the yard and expand my garden.
Problem - I don't have a tiller, can't see spending $450 for one, there are none on craigslist, and also can't see spending $80 to rent one for a day.
Solution - Maning the frick up, and doing it by hand.
Time it took to make a 5 x 8 square ready for planting = 2 hours.
Tools needed = Hoe, shovel and a rake.
It was such a beautiful day here I could not stand to be inside, so this was a fitting project. Several blisters later I had worked the earth into what looks like a nice brown patch. I have no idea if the grass will grow back, I tried to move the earth down about six inches over the entire plot. Hopefully this will allow me to double my production capacity in the coming growing season.

“WANNA BE” SURVIVALISTS/PATRIOT/PREPPER DRIFTERS
Just a word of caution for all you true Patriots, Survivalists, and Preppers. Beware of the wanna-be’s that are not quite sure where they fit in to what is going on with the patriot, prepping movement. From personal experience these types of people will talk a lot but take no action. They will try and worm their way into your community sounding somewhat educated about self sufficient living, but do give themselves away the longer they talk.
While we realize that this is the reason for networks such as the preppers, patriots, and survivalists to help each other in preparing for the future unknown. The type of people I am talking about will again, talk a lot with out putting forth any effort to help when it comes down to the doing. They expect to live in a community where everyone else takes care of it while they sit back and reap the rewards. They will talk about how they will run and hide when the SH#* hit’s the fan instead of standing up and fight for our liberties and our freedoms. Keep your mind open to the warning signs just as we did watching and listening very carefully. The people we came across had a total disregard for women. Statements were made that when the SH#* hit’s the fan they would just go find them some desperate woman on the street to be their slave. They have all the signs of a predator, coursing young children (8 year old girl) to take walks alone with them. Making statements that women have no voice. Questioning about the way things are done in the community. Wanting a one housing unit for all involved in the community, instead of each individual family having their own individual homes and space. I could go on and on about our experience, but I think you true patriots, preppers, and survivalists get the picture. Choose very carefully whom you invite to your homestead/retreat as we all know talk is cheap. People like this will prey upon people like us who do care about helping out all human beings without judging, but…there is that line that has to be drawn.
Not everyone can know how to survive everyday life without somewhat being in the system, weather it is your job, or if you choose to send your kids to public schools, or you trade with the mainstream. We are all doing our best to fight for our liberties, for our freedoms, to live free and die free and the same for generations to come. This is what it is about, all of us doing our parts to see that this happens. Get educated, stay informed, and keep your eyes and ears open. Thanks to all you true patriots, preppers, and survivalists.

A Useful Tool for the Coming Tough Times
Here at OKPN we occasionally find ourselves wrapped around the axle concerning the sorry state of affairs in our nation. I want to write about the perceived wrongs in our nation - and I forget to do cool practical application articles. So here is one item I just fell in love with.
This is a siphon available for purchase here, that is definitely the easiest one I have ever used (plus you get two of them, its like watching QVC minus that crazy lady w/ the damn sweaters and headbands). Today I used this for the first time. It was time to swap out my 55 gallon drum of water, clean it and replenish the contents. I found myself not wanting to sit the there w/ the hand pump for 30 gallons, or throw out my back trying to dump it on its side (yes, I know - just install a spigot at the base - I'll get around to it eventually). So I turned to this impulse puchase from a few weeks ago. It works awesome - one end is weight so it sank to the bottom of the drum and it has a little marble/ jigger/ doo-dad that if shaken, starts the water flowing out the other ends. Did I say this was AWESOME?
I originally bought these for use rotating fuel in and out of the various cans and tanks around the casa. Luckily this came w/ two siphons, so I can keep one for water/ food grade liquids and use the other for Petro-byproducts.
I've gotta run and go check the barrel, it should be empty by now.
