Oklahoma City - Smokey Red Sky

APN thanks Barbara (okie B) for this info

Driving home from work today, I noticed that the sky in Oklahoma City was smokey red. Thats not completely unheard of since we have red dirt and sometimes have dust storms, but this was thick and swirly, not typical for a dust storm. So I got home and tried going online and checking the local news to find out what was going on, but nothing. Went to go brush my teeth, and there was no water to my house.

News reports are starting to come in on the local news stations that two things occurred in the last couple of hours. First, there was a fire in a grain elevator at SW 29th and Robinson, fairly close to downtown. Obviously, this is very bad because grain elevators have a lot of highly combustible grain dust and could explode. As firefighters were working to contain the blaze, they lost water pressure. Crews discovered a water main break at SW 149th in one of two 72-inch water mains that provide water to most of south Oklahoma City and many neighboring communities. Crews expect that it will take another 3-4 hours for them to divert water to a different 48-inch water main and have asked the community to refrain from using water while they get this done, and pressure will likely be low for a while.
